Two government Ministries and a unit in the Office of the Vice President have become the latest recipients of vehicles and other items donated by the World Food Programme (WFP).

Two vehicles, a DAF 1800 truck and a single cabin Toyota Land Cruiser, were donated to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The Ministry also received two 20ft sea-cargo containers, two combo aqua tanks and rolls of perimeter barbed wire.

WFP Country Director, Dr. Housainou Taal, in presenting the items, explained that their motive behind the gesture was to boost the government’s effort in increasing agricultural production and improving food security.

“These vehicles will help the Ministry with the transportation of future inputs to farmers,” Ms Taal pointed out.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Dr. Abu Bakarr Karim, who received the donated items, said it was the kind of collaboration and partnership they expected.

WFP also donated a Toyota Hilux cabin van to the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE), which was received by Technical and Higher Education Minister, Prof. Aiah Gbakima, who represented the MBSSE Minister Dr. David Sengeh. The vehicle is to be used for the monitoring of the national school feeding programme.

A Ford 4WD Vehicle was also presented to the Scaling Up Nutrition Secretariat within the office of the Vice President. Minister of State in the office of the Vice President, Francess Alghali, said it would go into mobilising efforts at reducing malnutrition in the country.
