The University of Sierra Leone (USL) has on Thursday 15th April 2021 concluded the conferment of Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates to students who have completed various courses in their three constituent colleges of Fourah Bay College (FBC), Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM) and the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS).
This year’s congregation ceremony of the USL started with the Post Graduate Studies and the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS) on Tuesday 13th April followed by the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM) on Wednesday 14th April and Fourah Bay College, on Thursday 15th April, 2021.
Speaking at the last session of the graduation ceremony at the Adjai Crowther Amphitheatre Mount Aureole FBC, the Vice Chancellor of University of Sierra Leone, Professor Foday Sahr told the graduates of Fourah Bay College that their degree is the beginning of a real journey and that the skills and knowledge they have acquired at the university will put them into a test that will demonstrate to the world what they actually gained in the university.
“It is said that every beginning has an end, but I would like to add that every end has a beginning. For most of you today marks the end of your academic journey. Your degrees will soon be conferred which is an indication that you have been equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to go into the world and make the necessary impact. This is therefore the beginning of another journey,” he said.
He added that their impact in the real world is a test that will prove what they have gained during their course in the university. “It is the real journey in which the knowledge and skill you have acquired in the past few years would put you to a test. The outcome of that test is what is going to really prove to the outside world what you actually gained from the university,” he added.
While thanking the parents and guardians for their support to the students to their academic success, he therefore congratulated the graduands for the successful completion of their studies.
The Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Professor Alpha Tejan Wurie, described USL, especially FBC as the premiere of education in the country.
However, he said the university should reduce its number of intake for its programs if it should regain its once academic excellence in West Africa.
He also said that the university should embark on distance learning so that one would be as far as Falaba while offering a course.
