TWO ACCUSED OF “DEFRAUDING” A PASTOR GET BAIL

Magistrate Hannah Bonnie in Freetown has admitted Josephine Bantamoi alias Aminata Sillah and Komba Mbayoh to a Le300, 000,000 bail bond each and or two sureties in like sum, in the ongoing preliminary investigations into a three-count charge including conspiracy to defraud and obtaining money by false pretenses.

Pronouncing the bail conditions, Magistrate Bonnie said that one of the sureties must own a property valued at five hundred million Leones in the Western Area of Sierra Leone.

The prosecution, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Ibrahim Sheik Mansaray, alleges that the accused persons on the 21st May 2020, at Allen Town in Freetown, conspired together with other persons unknown to defraud Pastor Idrissa Bangura the sum of one hundred million Leones by falsely pretending that they have one and half town plots of land for sale situated at Gooding Drive off Regent Road, Lumley in Freetown, knowing same to be false.

It is also alleged that the first accused (Sillah) on the 21st May 2020, at Allen Town in Freetown made false statement to Pastor Idrissa Bangura that she owned a conveyance with the description of Aminata Sillah with Folio Number 1020/81 Volume 331 page 142, dated 12th August 1981 in her name.

Both accused persons who did not have lawyers did not meet the bail conditions and were remanded into the custody of the Correctional Services.

The matter was adjourned to the 9th of September, 2020.

Meanwhile magistrate Hannah Bonnie has issued a bench warrant for Sulaiman Sesay, Ibrahim Bangura and Sheku N'jai, who are being investigated on a two-count charge of conspiracy to commit a crime and larceny, for dodging court proceedings. They are currently on the run after they were admitted to bail.

According to the prosecution, the accused persons on Sunday 28th June 2020, at James Drive, Hill Station in Freetown, conspired together and with other persons unknown to commit a crime by stealing from Musa Sesay, a pupil attending the Divine Mission Academy, one Blu Vivo 5 mini mobile phone, valued at US$300 equivalent to the sum of three million Leones.

The prosecutor is Sergeant 8998 Kadie Taylor. The matter comes up again on the 9th September 2020.
