The Teaching Service Commission (TSC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Basic and Secondary School Education (MBSSE) and other stakeholders has launched the nomination process for the country’s third edition of the Presidential National Best Teacher Awards (PNBTA 2023)
According to a statement from TSC, the process was launched on the 22nd of August 2023 following a national meeting held with stakeholders in the education sector following which nomination started on the 23rd of August and is set to end on the 6th of September 2023.
Highlighting qualifications one should possess to be nominated, the statement explained that, the nominee should be a full-time trained and qualified teacher in Pre-primary, Primary, Junior Secondary School (JSS), Senior Secondary School (SSS), and Technical Vocational levels of government, government-assisted and community schools in the country. It noted that the nominees can be teachers with or without pin codes.
The statement emphasized that the nominees should be teachers who have demonstrated consistently high performance and dedication over a period of at least five years of uninterrupted service.
“Teachers who have shown evidence of practicing the teaching profession in line with the Teacher Code of Conduct and teachers who have practiced the profession meeting all professional standards” a part reads.
Speaking on how one can partake in the nomination process, the statement explained that “Nominations are done online. Fill out and submit your electronic or hard copy nomination form”.
According to the commission, the main objective of the award is to ensure that they recognize the value of teachers in the development of persons and the country. TSC further stated that the award is also in a bid to promote excellence among teachers and motivate and inspire them.
The country held its first award on the 5th of October 2021, whilst the second was held on the 18th of October 2022. The award is said to be one of President Julius Maada Bio’s promises to ensure that teachers feel valued and recognized.
