Travel ban slammed on Sierra Leone's former president and 111 others

  • Ernest Bai Koroma, former president

By Kemo Cham

The Sierra Leone government has announced travel restriction for 131 former officials declared wanted by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The officials include former President Ernest Bai Koroma and people who served in his administration, from Vice President to ministers and heads of departments and agencies. The officials are said to be persons of interest in the recently released government White paper.

The White paper was the government’s response to the recently concluded Commissions of Inquiry (COI) which investigated Koroma’s stewardship as president between 2007 and 2018.

A memo from the Attorney General and Minister of Justice addressed to the heads of the police and immigration, which was seen by Politico, ordered that the men be prevented from leaving the country by either land, air or sea.

The APC has rejected both the COI and the White paper and said it is poised to support its members challenge the decisions contained in the White paper.
