A blue public transportation bus plying between Calaba Town and Goderich Street, Freetown, on Monday 7th March 2022 reportedly lost control due to what sources suspected was a brake failure, leaving several people injured, and a shop, cars and tricycles damaged.
According to an eyewitness account, between the hours of 12 pm and 1 pm, the bus, carrying passengers headed for Calaba Town, lost control from the upper area of Goderich Street, and collided with moving vehicles and tricycles, before ramming into one of the shops down the street.
Sources said during the commotion, passengers forced themselves to the back of the bus whilst others and the conductors jumped off, sustaining injuries in the process. The driver and the conductors were nowhere to be found when the bus finally came to a halt.
The Sierra Leone Police Media and Public relations officer could not comment on the accident when contacted by Politico, saying that he was yet to receive detailed information from the Eastern Police station which is closer to the accident scene.
