Members of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) will today commence stock-taking of their party’s manifesto accomplishments and discuss the framework of the next manifesto, going into the June 24th 2023 Elections.
The party officials and grassroots converge this Wednesday for a two- day National Delegates Conference at Bintumani Hotel in Freetown, with the theme:’’ Towards a radical transformation: counting the gains since 2018’’.
As a prelude to the event, a cross section of the party’s leadership hosted a Press Conference at the Harry Yansaneh Hall, SLAJ Secretariat yesterday, in which they highlighted the thrust of the conference.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Lahai Lawrence Leima told journalists that Sierra Leoneans bought into the manifesto as presented by the then party presidential candidate Julius Maada Bio and got him elected as President of the country.
He said President Bio is to present his scorecard to delegates at the conference, who will then come up with suggestions that will form the basis in developing the party’s next manifesto which the president is to take to the electorate on his campaign trail.
SLPP Secretary-General, Umaru Napoleon Koroma in a statement read to journalists said the “the SLPP-led government is proud of the achievements’’ of President Bio and that the conference will provide an opportunity for the president ‘’to reflect on the progress made and affirm food security as his second term priority’’.
Information and Communications Minister, Mohamed Rahman Swaray said the conference itself underlines the democratic nature of the SLPP and that the party will continue to strive for greater accountability and transparency under what he described as the clairvoyant leadership of President Bio.
Press Secretary in the Office of the President, Yusuf Keketoma Sandi encouraged the media to help in the development of a better Sierra Leone.
The country’s High Commissioner in Ghana, Francess Anderson paid tribute to President Bio for setting the stage for women to actively participate in politics. She stressed the need for women to seize the moment and ‘’not to shy away from frontline politics’’.
