Sierra Leone’s Energy Minister woos investors in Ghana

In a bid to persuading energy investors into the country, the Minister of Energy, Alhaji Kanja Sesay, together with senior administrative members of his ministry, has in an invitation by  PREFOS Limited, a solar street light manufacturer in Ghana,  persuaded  Bechtel Financing Services Limited, that deal with renewable energy and other services to partner with Sierra Leone.

In a newsletter by the ministry’s communication specialist said the minister with his team visited the headquarters of PREFOS LTD that is situated in the country’s second largest city, Kumasi, where he was taken on conducted tours of the company’s facilities that include the warehouse, assembly rooms, showrooms, training school and administrative rooms.

PREFOS Limited is an accomplished street light manufacturer that was established in 1991, has made a brand name and reputation for itself in the business of solar street lights in the sub-region.

In a discussion with the Chief Executive Officer of PREFOS, Alexie K. Fosu, said he was encouraged by what the Minister said and was considering establishing a sustainable partnership with Sierra Leone in the area of solar energy.

Sesay also held a dialogue with Head of the United States of America-based, Bechtel Financing Services Limited. Bechtel Financing Services also invests in Africa in the areas of transportation, digital infrastructure, oil and gas and chemicals, and renewable energy. It is also currently working on projects in Senegal and Kenya.

The minister also utilized his time in Ghana to gain knowledge from his counterpart minister in Ghana on how he was managing its grid and public utilities directly connected with the provision of electricity.
