Fourah Bay College History lecturer, on PhD scholarship in Bradford, has been critically ill for about a year and in urgent need of money for a surgery. All what can save his life is £ 2,500. The total cost of his surgery is £ 12,000 but he has got a helping hand to the sum of £ 9,500.
Under the terms of his scholarship Lansana Kormoh does not qualify to be operated on under Britain's National Healthcare Service scheme.
According to his colleague lecturer, Dr Ibrahim Abdullah his employers - Fourah Bay College - can only contribute £ 1,000 under the terms and conditions of his employment which they have done.
The actual date for his operation depends on the availability of funds, even though it is tentatively set to happen on 20 May.
His condition is complicated, made worse by his sickle cell condition.
This is his passionate letter to his compatriots:
"I am writing to make an appeal to you and all friends and colleagues to lend me a helping hand at this very difficult time...I have been diagnosed with a serious complication known as avascular necrosis of the femoral head which needs a total hip replacement surgery. Due to my status as an international student I have been asked to pay for the surgery which is £12,000 and some extra amount to pay for rehab and recovery...I have been able to raise £9,500. I am kindly appealing that you help me raise some money locally in my home country so that I can have my surgery, recover and return home to continue to serve my country."
