Football clubs in Sierra Leone are participating in this year’s Confederations of African Football Association’s (CAF) Champions League and Confederations Cup .

In the CAF Confederations Cup, FC Kallon defeated Buffles du Borgou of Benin on Friday 9th September, 2022 1-0 in Cotonou in the preliminary round of the competition. The goal was scored by Philip Conteh in the 67 minutes of the game.

Prior to the match in Benin, FC Kallon’s owner, former Regina, Inter Milan, Monaco and Sierra Leone legend and former Skipper of the national team, Mohamed Kallon took over as the Head Coach of the team.

FC Kallon  have before featured in a CAF competition when Kallon was also representing his football club.

In his post -match interview, Kallon noted that even though they watched lots of videos of their opponents, they found it difficult to contain them throughout the match. He said since it was difficult to contain them, they set up a one goal objective, which they eventually got.

The second leg of FC Kallon’s match will be played at the Samuel K. Doe stadium in Monrovia, Liberia.

Champions of Sierra Leone and debutant in the CAF Champions League, Bo Rangers were held to a goalless draw in Liberia by CR Belouzdad of Algeria in Monrovia.

Before the commencement of the competition in Liberia, Rangers Swiss/Chilean Head Coach, Jose Solomon Cortes was banned by CAF from taking charge of the team. He was said not to have the required CAF A license coaching qualification or its equivalent for African club competitions.

However, Alhaji Foray aka Abedi took charge of coaching Rangers instead.

Both FC Kallon and Bo Rangers prepared well for this year’s CAF competition after engaging in series of friendly matches.

It is four years since Sierra Leone last participated in a continental club competition.
