President Julius Maada Bio is due to meet the new German Chancellor Olaf Scholz who took office in December last year.
According to the Sierra Leone embassy in Germany following a request by President Bio to meet the new Chancellor, the German government responded by assuring the embassy that the Chancellor would avail himself for a spontaneous meeting with President Bio in Brussels.
The two leaders would meet on the margins of the EU-AU Partnership Summit which is scheduled to take place in Brussels, the Kingdom of Belgium from 17th -18th February 2022.
Idrissa Gogra, the Press Attaché at the Sierra Leone embassy in Germany told Politico that the purpose of the meeting is to strengthen the existing cordial bilateral cooperation between the two friendly countries.
In its most recent bulletin, the foreign ministry in Freetown announced that the German government has reinstated Sierra Leone for German development assistance saying the action underscored the ‘tremendous confidence in the government of President Bio’.
The foreign affairs update also announced that the German embassy in Freetown has ‘commenced the facilitation of Schengen Visa applications for journeys to Germany for holders of diplomatic and service passports…’ but decisions on granting visas would still be made at the German embassy in Accra.
