Sierra Leone’s Abu Bakarr Jalloh was among participants who participated in 2021 Dubai International Holy Quran Award Competition organized in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The Dubai International Holy Quran Award is an annual award given for the memorization of the Quran, sponsored by the government of Dubai. It has over the years recognized hundreds of people from across the world that have excelled in the Quran memorization competition held every year.
Jalloh, who happens to be Sierra Leone’s sole representative in the competition, qualified for the competition after his exceptional performance at the 5th edition of the National Quranic Memorization Competition organized by the Foundation of Islamic Information, FOISIL, in Sierra Leone.
Speaking after his recitation session, Jalloh said that he was honored and privileged to represent his country in such a high-profile competition. He also commended Sierra Leone’s Envoy to the UAE, Ambassador Rashid Sesay for providing quality representation for Sierra Leoneans in the UAE and particularly for according him the much needed support and motivation during the competition.
Ambassador Sesay, who also witnessed the event, thanked the UAE authorities for organizing the event and for inviting Sierra Leone to participate in the annual exercise, noting that it was also part of religious diplomacy.
This year’s event marking the 24th edition of the award was dedicated and named after the late Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE’s Minister of Finance for almost 50 years, in recognition of his efforts in all fields.
