With less than a year to go into the general and presidential elections in Sierra Leone, the Chairman of the National Grand Coalition party has suspended key members of the party and ordered disciplinary procedures to be instituted against them.
In a letter widely circulated on social media, Dr. Dennis Bright told the party’s acting Chairman for Kenema district, Dominic Boima that he was being investigated because his “various activities have undermined the integrity of the ongoing lower level elections and your contribution to the spread of violence and unruly behavior in the party”. Boima was also told that he “will cease to participate in party activities with immediate effect and your access to NGC social media forums will also be suspended until a decision has been taken on your fate by the Party’s disciplinary structures and to make sure you comply with this directive to avoid any embarrassment”.
In a further public notice Dr. Bright also told NGC members that he had suspended the party membership of Joseph Maada Kpulun, Saidu Abass Dumbuya Deputy National Organizing Secretary, Mr. Nat Jones, District Chairman, West Rural and Mrs. Jarrieu Dumbuya.
According to the party chairman “these members are being investigated for various anti- party activities, including sponsoring violence, unruly behavior, undermining the integrity of the ongoing lower level elections, all bringing the party into disrepute”. The administrators of all NGC social media forums were ordered to remove the names of the suspended party members from all forums.
The Western Area Rural Chairman, Arthur E. Pearce could not comment on the issue when Politico contacted him beyond saying that it is an internal party affairs and therefore referred us to the Party’s Secretary General.
The National Grand Coalition (NGC) party is due to hold regional elections beginning on the 8th October, 2022 with the party’s national convention slated for the end of the month.
