The 2018 flag bearer of the Alliance Democratic Party (ADP), Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray is at the Criminal Investigations Department of the Police answering questions regarding his sexual conduct towards a 15 year old girl.
Reports of an alleged sexual penetration of the girl in Kono, Eastern Sierra Leone went viral on social media last week against Mr. Mansaray as audio conversations between him and the parents and relatives on different occasions on the issue were leaked. Police have not announced the exact charges on which he is being held for questioning.
Mansaray has since denied the allegations describing it as a political witch hunt.
In a telephone interview with Politico on Monday, the politician said it was a ploy to destroy his political ambitions.
“It totally false, untrue and just a ploy to set me up. I have never had any sexual relationship with that 15 year old. It just a ploy, according to police report sent to me, I took this young girl to a hotel, Diamond Lodge in Kono and I have never been to diamond lodge, I have never stayed in Diamond Lodge hotel, the police went there, they verified that information…I have never been to that hotel so how can I take a young girl like that to a public place me being a public figure to have a sexual intercourse. It’s absurd, it’s a ploy, it’s just a set up,” he said.
Mansaray noted that he has been helping the family of the girl since January 2020 which was when he last saw her not in February as is being alleged.
“And from that time I haven’t set eyes on them until two or three days ago when I saw a social media post from an SLPP mouthpiece in America claiming that I raped a 15 year old girl and I called the police myself to enquire if there was any report like that but they said they were investigating an alleged sexual penetration of a 15 year old way back in February this year.
The family members that this girl stays with are witnesses to the fact that I did not at any point be with her even for a minute,” he explained.
Police Media and Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Brima Kamara told Politico on Tuesday that they have already done the necessary investigations in respect of the case and that they have found a case against the ADP leader.
“There is a report against him and that report was made on the 17th of July that was Friday by the father of the victim, a 15 year old school girl living in Kono and it has to do with sexual penetration. We have done our investigations; statements have been obtained from the victim and witnesses. We have received the medical report, and so we are now convinced that there is a case against him. So he will have to come and answer to these allegations made against him. This is not an issue that warrants invitation we are going to arrest him. This one is a felonious crime and for felonious offenses, we don’t invite we arrest,” Kamara told Politico shortly before Mansaray turned up at the CID.
Mr. Mansaray commonly known as Kamarainba is the current leader and chairman of the ADP, a political party he formed in opposition to the country’s two main political parties, the APC party and SLPP.
As a politician he prides himself in representing the poor Sierra Leoneans who have been neglected by governments for too long. He became an outspoken critic of Sierra Leone's dominant political elites, especially former President, Ernest Bai Koroma after he fell out with the APC party in 2014.
