Sierra Leone Journalist's murder case: Pathologist cross examined

  • Late Ibrahim Samura

By Mohamed T. Massaquoi

The Consultant Pathologist in the ministry of health, Dr. Owizz Koroma was cross-examined on Tuesday by the legal defence team for Abubakarr Daramy and Herbert George Williams in the ongoing preliminary investigations into the alleged murder of Journalist Ibrahim Samura before magistrate Mark Ngeba in Freetown.

Dr. Koroma told the court that his autopsy report detailed the cause of the death of the journalist, citing “massive intra-cerebral hemorrhage and leakage of blood in the skull.” Dr. Koroma also mentioned that the deceased had an enlargement of the heart, hypertensive kidney, acute fatty pancreatitis, and high blood pressure.
Under cross-examination by Lawyer Melron Nicol-Wilson, Dr Koroma admitted that the medical status of any patient must be recorded and put into a file but denied pre-viewing any copy of the medical report of the deceased before his death at the 34 Military Hospital. He said: “no copy of the medical file was given to me. I never set eyes on the medical file.”

Lawyer Nicol-Wilson again asked the pathologist whether he conducted an X-ray before he started the medical investigation to which he replied in the negative, noting that “the facility is not available.”

At this point, the lead defense lawyer applied for an adjournment because the second accused Herbert George Williams had to appear at the high court on a separate matter.

The case comes up again on Monday 11th October.
