Sandor writes IFAD over Le38M project

By Septimus Senessie in Kono

Residents of Bangambaya Community in Sandor Chiefdom, Kono district have written an open letter to the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), requesting it to complete a Le 38 million project that has been left idle.

The money was supposed to have been used for the construction of a warehouse and drying floor for processing their proceeds and storage facilities.

The open letter to IFAD, which follows, comes exactly 6 months after the community had early accused the organisation of theft a story Politico carried on Tuesday 10th September 2013:

From: The Bangambaya Community, Sandor Chiefdom, Kono District

To: IFAD District Office Coordinator, Kono District.

Date: 10th February, 2014.

Subject: Reminder for the project: Construction of Warehouse and Drying Floor etc.

As per the above subject, we the above mentioned community write to remind you about our felt need which you vowed to provide for us in the form described in the above subject.

We wanted to see this happen at the time of the procurement process and contract which was awarded to the company called AB&I Construction Company in 2010. But up to now we have not heard a word from you or seenyou, neither the contractor nor the structure.

In light of this, as a community, we are asking you kindly to revisit our request and help us in achieving these felt needs and help us improve our livelihood through farming activity, which is our main occupation.

We shall be very grateful if a positive action is taken by your office to satisfy our needs.

Yours in Nation building
