Redeemed Christian Church to donate to Ebola fight

By Mustapha Sesay

Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Sierra Leone has announced that they will donate medical equipment and bags of rice worth Le 40 million to the country’s National Ebola Response Centre.

The items, according to the General Overseer, Pastor Adewale Kalode Adesina, would be divided into three parts so as to serve their target groups. He said they would also cater for their congregation, quarantined homes in the provinces.

Making the congregational donation at Sanders Street in Freetown, Pastor Adesina explained that the items were a direct support from the church’s General Overseer in Nigeria, Pastor Enoch Adeboya, to the three most Ebola hit West African countries, where his church operated.

He said that they decided to include the church’s membership in the donation because their members were living in almost all the communities that had been affected by the Ebola disease, noting that they had followers in over 40 branches in the country.

He urged his members to ensure that they used the items for the intended purpose, adding that more of such support was expected from Nigeria.

He said they would hand over the items, which included multi-vitamins, hand sanitizers, hand gloves and anti-malaria drugs to NERC today, January 16.

“We are obedient to the state and we comply with all Ebola prevention regulations as prescribed by the health ministry. We will help as much as we can to eradicate this disease from Sierra Leone,” the pastor assured.
