Heal of Police media, Waterloo Division, says Western Area Rural has recorded 44 Ebola quarantined homes.
Inspector Edward Senesie said the situation in his region was alarming and “very challenging to handle”. He said sometimes quarantined people would go without food, complaining that it was difficult to stay at one place.
He was speaking yesterday at a dialogue forum organised in Waterloo by the region’s taskforce on Ebola where the military representative, Captain Abdul Fornah, said it was a huge surprise to hear that Western Rural alone had 44 quarantined cases.
He said the situation was “shocking and terrifying”, adding that he would immediately convey the situation to his commanders so they would get prepared to give assistance to the police.
Member of Parliament for Constituency 95, Claude Kamanda expressed dismay at the pronouncement by Inspector Senesie that people were moving out of quarantined homes. He said the security personnel were supposed be more vigilant.
He said that Western Rural was “a whole district on its own that requires at least an ambulance and a burial team”.
Chairperson of the taskforce, Doris Fatima Webber bemoaned the absence of the District Medical Officer and the district chairman at the forum. She said it was essential for such personalities to have been present because “the taskforce would like to know the yardstick the medical team are using to get data on Ebola cases and deaths. She said they had convened the forum so as to discuss issues relating to blood samples, burial teams and ambulance. She said the fact that they lacked ambulance was a severe hindrance to them in the Ebola fight.
