Sierra Leone's Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has appealed for collaboration from the people of Kenema in its fight against graft.
Mohamed Sylvanus Blake, District Coordinator of the anti-graft agency, said the fight against corruption was a national one which required everyone’s participation.
He was speaking at the launch of the Pay No Bribe campaign which in Kenema last week.
Through the campaign the ACC is encouraging citizens to report bribery and corrupt acts through telephone calls and text messaging. The Commission has also developed an application which allows anyone to send in complaints via the internet.
Mr Blake told Politico that the campaign was a new tool that the ACC would be using to encourage the public to recognise and be aware that bribery was one factor that was influencing corruption in the country.
He disclosed that the campaign was part of a DfID-sponsored project costing 4.7 million Pounds Sterling, designed to raise public awareness on the issue of bribery. The campaign covers five districts including Kenema, Blake said.
One of the areas of concern for the ACC is the education sector.
At the launch Blake spoke about the practice of teachers in schools, colleges and universities, using practical sessions and exams to extort money from students and pupils. He said they were all corrupt acts that needed to be stopped.
