ONE REMANDED FOR SEXUAL PENETRATION

Justice Sulaiman Bah of the sexual offenses division of the High Court in Freetown has remanded one Santigie Turay into the custody of the Correctional Services following his first appearance on Monday for allegedly sexually penetrating a child.

The prosecution alleges that the accused person between the 1st January and 10th May 2020, in the Western Area of Freetown sexually penetrated a child under the age of 18.

State prosecutor Alberta Kargbo asked for an adjournment “to be able to file the necessary documents to the court.”

In his application for bail, defense lawyer A. D Camara-Macualy noted that his client was resident in Freetown and had reliable sureties as well as properties if the court required any.

The accused, who pleaded not guilty, was refused bail and the matter adjourned to the 26th August 2020.

Justice Sulaiman Bah also remanded one Ibrahim Mansaray on Monday for allegedly engaging in an act of sexual penetration with a child.

The prosecution alleges that the accused person between the 1st of February and the 20th March 2020, in Freetown, engaged in an act of sexual penetration of a child under the age of 18.

The accused, represented by lawyer E. S Bobani-Brown pleaded not guilty when the indictment was put to him.

State prosecutor Alberta Kargbo asked for an adjournment “to be able to prepare witnesses so that progress could be made in the interest of justice.”

The matter was adjourned to the 16th September 2020.
