Magistrate Hannah Bonnie in Freetown has remanded one Sheik Umar Karankay Conteh in the custody of the Correctional Services at the commencement of preliminary investigations into a six count charge.
The prosecution alleges that the accused, on the 30th April and on diverse dates between that day and the 25th June, 2020, at No.1 Magazine Cut, Grass Field, in Freetown, made remarks like ‘‘nar buff case - total buff case, this system is under our control’’ on Facebook against the Paramount Chief Koblo Queen II, in an attempt to pervert the course of justice in the case of the recent riots in the town of Lunsar.
The accused is a son of one of the people accused of conspiracy to murder from the Lunsar incident by the name of Osman Karankay Conteh. Sheik U.K. Conteh faces charges including perverting the course of justice, public insult and provocation, and making use of threatening and abusive languages against Chief Koblo Queen.
The matter, which is being prosecuted by Inspector Isatu Gbassay Fofanah, was adjourned to the 3rd August 2020.
The accused is not represented by a lawyer.
