No EDSA top up for 3 days

By Nasratu Kargbo

The Management of the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) will cease the sales of electricity token (top up) from 6 PM today Friday to 6pm of Monday 20th February 2023.

According to a press release dated 14th February this year, EDSA’s management explained their intention of introducing a new system called Integrated Management System, which will replace the existing one, thus the process will lead to a halt in selling of token for three days.

EDSA’ management said the new system will help in the attainment of certain goals and objectives which include strategic decision making, management control, and transaction processing with the aim of effectively and efficiently satisfying customers amongst others.

The release further explained that installation and testing of the new system were successfully completed and ready to be launched on the 20th February 2023. Hence they will disengage the current conlog infrastructure from the EDSA vending system.

The management therefore advised the public to buy electricity token in advance to ensure steady power supply.

In an interview with Politico, EDSA customer Lorrine Kargbo said: “I wasn't aware of the change made by EDSA but was told by a colleague at work about the new plan and changes to be made. This will greatly affect business people, especially those that cannot access newspapers or listen to the news to get information about it”. Kargbo said a long notice would have sufficed.

The customer explained that considering the economic crisis in the country, one has to plan on how to spend their monies. “Some work with a strict budget. Trying to squeeze in and make provisions for such an untimely decision by EDSA will affect businesses and cause inconvenience’’, said Kargbo.

Speaking on how this pause in sales will affect him, another customer Mohamed Kanu said the situation will force him to buy credit, noting that he is not a permanent worker who earns money frequently.

He said the institution did not disseminate the information well, and just like Kargbo insisted the Authority could have done better by informing the public well in advance.
