Sierra Leone President Julius Maada Bio has assured a closer working relation with the new World Bank Country Director.
Mr Pierre Frank Laporte, Country for Sierra Leone, Liberia and Ghana, is in the country on his first visit since his appointment to the position based in Accra, Ghana.
He was at State House on Monday where he was presented officially to the president.
“Let me welcome you to Sierra Leone and to let you know that you have good partners in development. We want to get on with the process of development and we will work with you so that we can surmount the challenges,” Bio was quoted telling the World Bank official.
Finance Minister, Jacob Jusu Saffa, who accompanied the new World Bank Chief to State House, expressed optimism over Mr. Laporte’s tenure, citing his wealth of experience.
According to the World Bank, the new regional chief has served in various positions at the international level.
According to a statement from the office of the Presidential Press Secretary, Laporte and Bio discussed a “wide range of issues” relating to the development of Sierra Leone.
Mr. Laporte himself said he was pleased to meet with the President and assured that he would use his experience and expertise to bring the right support to the government of Sierra Leone, the statement said.
