A new born baby girl, apparently a week old, was found dead at the bank of the Woryie River, back of the Central Assemblies of God’s Church in Koidu Town, Kono District.
The child, whose umbilical cord showed new wound, was left naked in the still water with wounds and flies hovering around it.
Youth Chairman of the Sansan Community in Koidu, Lansana Abdulai, said on the early hours of Monday 20 October 2014 they saw the dead body floating on the river and had to alert police at the Tankoro Police Division to it. He described the dumping into the river of the baby as “wicked and satanic”.
Kumba Mani, 40, in tears, said the alleged killer of the child should have given her the child and she would have raised it like her own children.
A barren woman, Kumba Sadi, 45, looked the dead child and asked God why would those who could not take care be given children? “My husband whom I married ten years ago would have been very happy if had just one child,” she said, subbing. Meanwhile, police at the Tankoro Police Division said the matter was being investigated.
When visited at the government hospital in Koidu for post-mortem result of the dead child, the district medical superintendent, Dr. Ronald Carshon-Marsh, said he was not ready to talk to any journalist.
