The National Telecommunications Commission (NATCOM) has launched the maiden edition of its newsletter.

The 27-page magazine, which officials say would be published twice a year, was launched on Wednesday at NATCOM’s headquarters in Freetown. The regulator said the publication is a vehicle to enhance the public’s understanding of its work.

Director of Corporate and Industry Affairs of NATCOM, Abdul Ben Foday, said his department thought of rolling out the idea in order to provide timely and factual information about the activities of the commission.

“In this edition, we have indicated developments undertaken thus far and the challenges in the sector in general. I have the conviction that this newsletter and subsequent ones will be of immense importance for the knowledge of the public of the activities of NATCOM,” he said.

The maiden edition of the newsletter included reports on the work of the commission throughout 2019 and part of 2020. Some of the developments featured in the edition included the signing of Memorandum of Understanding with other Mano River Union countries for free mobile roaming and the Commonwealth Telecommunication Conference hosted in Freetown.

The publication also features reports of the Commission’s effort to establish offices in Moyamba, Bonthe, Pujehun, and Port Loko districts, as part of efforts to increase its presence in the country.
