Moijue Kaikai, former Minister of Social Welfare in the Ernest Bai Koroma administration, has resigned from the main opposition All Peoples Congress (APC).

Mr Kaikai in a letter dated 18th October, a copy of which he shared with Politico on Thursday October 24th, said he was also leaving active politics to focus on serving his people.

The letter did not specify what his next move will be, but it followed reports that he is seeking to contest an upcoming paramount chieftaincy election in his district of Pujehun.

“Throughout my period of service as politician, I have cherished and maintained close ties with the people of my Chiefdom and Pujehun District and pursued my career and service to them and their communities,” the letter, addressed to the APC National Secretary General, Osman Foday Yanssaneh, reads in part.

In it Kaikai highlighted his achievements serving the people of Pujehun in the last 10 years in politics, noting that he has visited virtually all sections, towns and villages and have undertaken self-financed development projects in all these places.

Kaikai served in various capacities in the Koroma-led APC administration, starting from Deputy Minister of Labour and Employment from February 27, 2009 to December 3, 2010. He was later appointed as Resident Minister of the Southern Region, where he served from December 3, 2010 to January 4, 2013.

He was appointed Minister of Social Welfare, Gender and Children's Affairs on January 4, 2013 where he served till his controversial sacking in 2016 due to professional misconduct and verbal abuse that transpired between him and his deputy at the time, Mustapha Bai Attila.

Until his resignation, Kaikai was the Deputy National Organizing Secretary II of the APC.

In his resignation letter, he expressed gratitude to the APC for the opportunity the party offered him to serve the country.
