Mercury supports innovation awards

Sports betting and lottery company in Sierra Leone, Mercury International, has made a Le10 million donation as the Official Platinum sponsor for the Fourth Annual Education Excellence and Innovation Awards Ceremony.

The cheque was handed over to Life-by-Design, the organisers of the Achievement Awards, during a low key ceremony at the company's headquarters in Freetown.

According to the organisers, this year's Awards Ceremony was scheduled to take place on the 27 February 2016, at the Bintumani Conference Centre, Aberdeen in Freetown.

After the symbolic gesture Chairman Board of Directors,  Samir Hassanyeh, said they were humbled to make such a contribution towards promotion young people in the country.

Mr Hassanyeh who also chairs the charity arm of the company, the Charitable Foundation, said Life-by-Design deserved an ultimate and illuminating attention and support in order to maintain the dignity of developing the human resources of the country.

"We wish all nominees best of luck and congratulations in advance to deserving winners", Hassanyeh concluded.

Receiving the cheque on behalf of Life-by-Design, the Chief Executive Officer, Joe Abass Bangura, thanked the management and staff of Mercury International.

He said they were not surprised that Mercury would come in so strong because they always believed education was a top priority for their sponsorship package.

"The awards ceremony is to recognise the achievements of deserving winners, while role-modelling them as an inspiration to other students and young people who aspire for excellence", Joe Abass added.

Meanwhile, the Achievements awards will target students with the overall best results in national exams; NPSE, BECE, WASCE, for 2013/14 and 2014/15 academic years and most outstanding students graduating from main colleges in the country for the 2013/14 and 2014/15 academic years among other awards.
