The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) has in a press statement urged authorities of 1,983 (one Thousand nine hundred and eighty-three) primary schools to upload their Continuous Assessment Scores Capturing System (CASS) grades to the West African Examination Council (WAEC) for candidates of the just concluded National Primary School Examination (NPSE).
This comes amidst anticipation for the release of NPSE results which according to the statement from the Ministry is expected within 45 days after the date of the exam. However, the refusal or delay of these schools to upload their CASS grades to WAEC may serve as an impediment to the actualization of the release of the result.
As alternative measure to avoid delay in the release of the result, MBSSE noted that WAEC might result in computing the results of affected candidates without CASS marks. “This will obviously negatively affect their overall performance,” the statement reads in part.
It says it is unacceptable for schools to not comply with WAEC with regards to CASS grades and urged authorities of defaulting schools to take prudent steps to ameliorate the issue before Friday 11th June 2021. “Heads of affected schools who fail to comply with this obligation will face very serious consequences,” it noted.
166,495 pupils took this year’s end of primary school education exams or NPSE across the country on 28th May 2021. Examination centers were expanded to chiefdoms that didn’t have, so as to reduce the challenges faced by candidates and parents over the years in accessing examination centers in far and hard to reach areas. We could not get a reaction from the conference of Head Teachers at the time of going to press.
