Community Development Committee (CDC) - a representative body working to ensure the equitable utilization of resources and the sustainable development of the chiefdoms of Marampa and Maforki in Port Loko district – has announced receipt of its Community Development Fund.
According to a press statement, the money was disbursed by Marampa Mines Limited (Ltd) and has been remitted into the committee’s Bank Account.
The disbursement according to the statement dated 1st June 2023, marked a significant milestone in the pursuit of sustainable development and growth within the Chiefdoms of Marampa and Maforki.
It added that the CDC serves as a vital conduit between the community and Marampa Mines Ltd which works tirelessly to ensure that the benefits from the mining operations are channeled towards the improvement of the communities.
The release noted that with the funds, they can now accelerate their efforts to implement projects that will bring about positive change and create a better future for the residents of Marampa and Maforki chiefdoms.
It assured that the funds which have been allocated as part of CDA will be judiciously utilized to address the pressing needs and principles identified by the community members. It also stated that the CDC will ensure transparent and accountable management of the funds, in adherence to the highest standards of governance.
The committee expressed its commitment to fostering an inclusive decision-making process that actively involves community representatives and seeking their valuable input in identifying and executing projects that align with the aspirations of the community.
The CDC in the release also expressed its gratitude to the Government of Sierra Leone for ensuring Marampa Mines honoured its Corporate Social Responsibility.
It went on to say that the partnership between the mining company and the community, serves as a model for sustainable development, demonstrating how collaboration and shared responsibility can lead to positive outcomes.
The CDC welcomes suggestions and proposals from community members regarding potential projects and initiatives that could be funded through the community development fund. It also encourages individuals, community groups, and stakeholders to engage with the committee and actively participate in the decision-making process.
“Together, we can harness the power of these funds to uplift our community and create a brighter future for all,” part of the statement reads. The committee is expected to use community development fund to implement projects aimed at improving infrastructure, healthcare, education, and essential services in the two chiefdoms.
