Head of the police media in Kenema says one Fayia Vandi of Dambalu village in the Kissi Tongi chiefdom in Kailahun district has been arrested for allegedly murdering his wife.
Sgt Prince Bernard Jaygboi Kamara said police investigations revealed that the suspect had made a confessionary statement to police that on the 7th July 2016 he had an encounter with his wife Watta Vandi while working on their farm after she requested some money from him for medication.
An argument ensued between them resulting in a bitter quarrel which allegedly led the wife to pick up firewood and hit her husband. In the process, say police, the husband pursed the wife and sat heavily on her on the ground and seriously beat her up. He later abandoned her there and returned home.
The woman later managed to walk to the main road where she collapsed. Two people were said to have met her lying on the ground. She reportedly explained to them about what had happened.
One of them went for a hammock and carried her to town, but she died on the way.
The suspect is being detained at the Kailahun police station with further investigations underway
