The Resident Magistrate attached to Court No I in Kenema, George Edwin, has warned youths against felonious offences during the festive season in the Kenema Judicial District.
Addressing court attendants on the 15th December, Magistrate Edwin said he was sending out a warning for the young people to mind their activities and actions during the festive period.
“Most of you here may want to enrich yourself by causing felonious criminal acts to satisfy your desires against peaceful citizens. Offences such as burglary, house breaking, wounding with intent, larceny is a serious criminal act and can’t be compromised,” he said.
He went on: “Those who think this is time to make money and wealth for others to suffer will have an encounter with the law. No bail for such people when appeared before my court this year or January.”
Magistrate Edwin called on police officers attached to his court and other security personnel to map out an operational plan to curb crimes during and after the festive season in the Kenema municipality, noting that crime rate normally increases during festive period.
He went on to single out commercial motor bike riders to be very careful and law abiding, noting that there will be no mercy if anyone is found wanting of any crime.
“I don’t want bike riders to use that avenue to cause havoc on people on the street. Anyone that appears in my court this time round will be dealt with accordingly. Most time the court sympathizes with bike riders due to high unemployment rate in the country and it’s not all-time to send them to jail,” he said.
The magistrate also admonished land dealers to be honest and sincere in their dealings, noting that they are mostly the source of many conflicts in the country.
“Double sales of land will be tempered with no mercy because they are responsible for most of the land disputes in this country. I want people to enjoy their festive season peacefully, not when covid-19 is affecting normal activities and criminals also pose threat to the people,” he said.
