This year’s Leone Rock sponsored “Salone” Premier League started with a bang with all participating teams determined to at the end of the League season, carry the giant champions’ trophy home to their fans.
Three weeks into the league, 38 goals have been scored so far by 32 players in 20 matches.
The race for the top goal scorer is tight and intense with six players from different clubs having registered 2 goals each so far. They are Suffian Kalokoh from Bo Rangers, Emmanuel Bangura of Luawa FC, Ibrahim Kargbo-Wusum Stars, Foday Komeh-Diamond Stars, Sulaiman Turay - Lamboi FC and Kwame Quee- Old Edwardians, all recording two goals.
Lansana Thoronka of Ports Authority has the highest assists- 2 assists followed by other 14 players from different clubs with one each.
Also, Mohamed Turay of Luawa FC after playing three matches won two man of the match awards while Alusine Fornah this year’s debutant for Bhantal FC was also twice crowned man of the match.
Further, 5 clubs in Luawa FC, Mighty Blackpool, Bhantal FC, Wusum Stars and SLIFA have emerged as the clubs with the highest Man of the Match winners, with two each.
Referees have awarded 4 penalty kicks in the league so far -Wusum Stars got a penalty in their match against East End Lions in which Abdul Bangura scored from the spot. Also, Abdul K. Turay of Freetown City FC scored a penalty kick against Real Republicans.
In the match between Kholifa Stars vs. Mighty Blackpool, Fabio M. Kodah of Kholifa Stars failed to convert the spot kick awarded them. Kwamie Quee of Old Edwardians FC scored his against Bhantal FC.
This year’s premier league is the first to be named after an institution after Leone Rock Metal Group emerged as the key sponsors and hence claimed the name “Leone Rock Premier League.”
