Magistrate Sahr Kekura at the Pademba Road Magistrate Court has placed a fine of 53 million Leones on Alhaji Kargbo and Issa Bangura for stealing and receiving properties of the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA).
The two men were also charged together with one Mohamed Samura. The Magistrate, however, discharged and acquitted Samura because of lack of evidence on the allegations against him.
The magistrate arrived at his judgment after the prosecution led in six witnesses that testified against all accused persons.
The three men were initially arraigned in court on three count charges; conspiracy contrary to law, stealing of electric cables and receiving stolen goods all contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.
According to the particulars of offence, the men on a Saturday 15th May 2021 at Upper Tenneba Road, Kuntolor in Wellington Freetown conspired with other unknown persons to commit a felony. Kargbo and Samura were also accused of involvement in the stealing of aluminum cable valued at six hundred and ten thousand (Le 610,000) Leones which was property of EDSA.
The cable was said to have been sold to the third accused, Bangura at 33 City Road, Wellington in Freetown.
Magistrate Kekura found the first accused, Kargbo, guilty and levied a fine of 50 million Leones or a conviction of two years. The third accused, Bangura was ordered to pay a fine of 3 million Leones or risk a jail term of two years.
