The Mayor of Kenema Municipality, Thomas Karim Baio has briefed Journalists and Local Authorities on his new development Plans for the people of Kenema City in his second tenure of office.
The briefing was held at his residence in Kenema on the 14th of August 2023.
He said his engagement was to discuss issues of importance to the development of Kenema and acknowledge the media’s role in making it a success.
He stated that since elections are over, it is time for development which he said can only be actualized when the people take centre stage to support the development of the municipality. He said that he has singularly bought a new Clock for the city with no support from any company and that it will be installed at its Tower, having already asked Africell telecom to dismantle the old faulty clock.
The Mayor assured that his next target is to erect stores alongside the station which can be rented out to bring in revenue for the Kenema city council.
He pointed out that the Kenema government hospital is another area that needs urgent attention and promised to engage Health Minister, Dr. Austin Demby and President Julius Maada Bio on improving the state of the hospital.
Mayor Baio further stated that development will not be successful if the media fails to monitor and checkmate them. He assured of a cordial relationship between politicians and the administrative wing of the council. He also promised to work with the security sector to mitigate the use of drugs; especially “Kush” in Kenema city which he said is affecting the wellbeing of young people.
He stated that the people of Kenema voted for development and that will be possible through respect for one another, transparency, and working in the interest of the people.
Paramount Chief of Nongowa Chiefdom, Sidique Kapuwa thanked the Mayor for his developmental initiatives for the city and assured of their support in transforming Kenema city to an enviable level. He spoke about him placing a ban on the double selling of lands which will lead to conflict amongst people.
