By Francis H. Murray

Magistrate Hannah Bonnie, on Wednesday 24th June remanded Ibrahim Kamara who rides a tricycle taxi (locally known as Kekeh) into the custody of the correctional services in Freetown at the start of preliminary investigations into a one count charge of murder against the 23 year-old.

Police prosecutors allege that Kamara, on Saturday 31st of August 2019 along Regent Road, Lumley in the Western Area of Sierra Leone murdered Sheku Samura who was also a tricycle taxi rider.

The first prosecution witness in the case Police Constable 15343 Tamba Nabieu, attached to the Lumley police station, told the court that he was on duty at Murray Town junction when the deceased and the accused had an altercation in the middle of the street, which he decided to enquire into and then advised the accused to properly park his tricycle and clear the way for other road users.

Constable Nabieu said he encouraged both riders to go their different ways and left only for his attention to be drawn yet again to a fight involving the accused and the deceased.

The witness said he saw the accused lift the deceased by his legs and land his head on a slab and that they both later proceeded to Lumley police station to report the incident and were issued with police medical request forms.

During cross examination of the witness by the accused who had no lawyer he asked the witness if he could tell who it was that first attacked the other after they were first separated and sent on their way. The witness replied saying “I cannot tell.”

Constable Nabieu said he didn’t see the accused hit the deceased with object during the fight.

Assistant Superintendent of Police I.S. Mansaray is prosecuting.
