The Leader and Chairman of the Alliance Democratic Party (ADP) Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray who’s alleged to have sexually penetrated a sixteen year-old girl, collapsed in court from the dock while the trial was going on.
The 2018 presidential candidate fell suddenly 15-minutes into discussions bordering around his health which his lawyers say was deteriorating because of the absence of appropriate medical care while in detention.
Few seconds before he fell, the accused began to scream ‘‘me hat, r dae feel pain, wuna call 911, wuna call ambulance,’’ (My heart, I’m feeling pain, please call 911, call an ambulance).
Presiding Judge Samuel S.O Taylor, defence lawyer and ordinary civilians closely following the trial, made frantic calls to the emergency response services for medical help but got no answer. The judiciary itself lacked even first aid treatment facilities.
Lying on his stomach for over five minutes in the dock, the accused continued to scream as he was being hand-carried by about five prison officers outside the court room and placed on the bare floor along the corridor.
After about 30 minutes into the situation without any response from the emergency service operators, a small mini-van from the correctional services came to the scene and carried the accused.
The 2018 Presidential aspirant who is standing trial together with co- accused Marion Arouni, faces an eight-count indictment including conspiracy, sexual penetration and meeting a child for sexual purposes.
His defence lawyers had raised concerns over his health which resulted in the trial judge making orders for certified medical doctors to examine him and take the necessary steps to accord him the medical attention needed.
Following the court’s order, a team of certified medical doctors conducted an examination of the accused but handed over what the lawyers referred to as an inclusive medical report.
Lead defence lawyer for Kamarainba, Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai had argued that his client had been sick for a while and that according to his doctor, he is almost developing prostate cancer.
