As part of the energy reformation drive, the Deputy Minister of Energy, Dr.Eldred Taylor, has symbolically erected electricity poles that would mark the physical commencement of the Kailahun Township Electrification Project after 40 years of lack of electricity in the district .
Speaking at the ceremony on the 15th May 2021, Town Chief of Kailahun, Maada Alpha Ndoleh, Alexander the SLPP Government for following through on their manifesto promise, adding that Kailahun couldn’t be more pleased at the prospects of having electricity after forty years.
Before the symbolical erection of the poles, Deputy Energy Minister, Eldred Taylor,described the people of Kailahun as brave and receptive to development.
He said the Ministry of Energy was pleased with the work that had so far taken place in Kailahun with regards the electrification of the town and its surroundings.
Dr.Taylor recalled campaign promises made by President Julius Maada Bio and the signing of the contract for the Kailahun Township Electrification Project in July last year,during which the contractors for the project were officially handed over to the people. He said the project was exclusively funded by the Government of Sierra Leone.
Dr. Taylor explained that the project comprise 350 High Voltage poles,some 12000 Low Voltage poles,out of which 300 had already been delivered,over 35 kilometers of ABC cables for stringing, 24 transformers which were already in Kailahun and 24 Low Voltage Panels. He described the district electrification project as the flagship project of the Ministry of Energy.
Speaking at the ceremony, Sierra Leone's Financial Secretary, Sahr Jusu, who is an indigine of Kailahun , said the district had taken over 40 years without experiencing electricity but assured that that grim experience would soon be a thing of the past.He called for patience as the project is implemented. Mr.Jusu also implored the people to own the project and to cooperate with the contractors.
Member of Parliament for Constituency 004,Honourable Sartie Banya,praised President Bio for his frantic efforts at giving Kailahun a facelift.He said many towns in the district had already benefited from a variety of electricity projects.He expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Energy for transparently superintending over the project.
General Project Coordinator in the Ministry of Energy, Ing. Dr. Wuseni,spoke about the project and highlighted a number of national energy projects which Kailahun was also going to benefit from.He assured that the project would be completed within the specific timeframe given by contractors.
