The Haram in the Third Term campaign

By Ezekiel Nabieu

It is a fact that all those peddling this odious idea of a presidential Third Term cannot be Christians, Muslims or members of other organised religions that believe in God Almighty.

They are damned atheists living without God and without hope in the world. And the greatest beneficiary is obviously suffering from incurable megalomania.

The whole concept is predicated on the delusion by the chief beneficiary that he has achieved more in six years than all that the previous government did. This is why he did not even allow the address of his predecessor to be read out at the handing-over because he knew it would render his own statement empty of content. Clever guy. There is no gainsaying the fact that we have been living with a politicised civil service and a more divided country since 2007. Ministers have now the temerity to select Permanent Secretaries and other bureaucrats they want to work with. Can you beat that?

The cliché that “All power comes from God” is taken from Romans 13: 1 that states: “Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God and those that exist have been instituted by God.” I am saying for the umpteenth time that one has to read biblical statements between the lines and not always literally. The passage of obedience emphasises government itself and its administrators when these function properly and not when maladministration is involved.

To show that the Bible’s passages should not always be taken literally let me quote just two instances out of many. Jesus said in Matthew 10:34 “Think not that I am come to send peace on earth. I came not to send peace but a sword.” Can this be interpreted literally?

In Luke 19:27 Jesus also said : “But those my enemies which would not that I should reign over them, bring them here and slay them before me.” Again did Jesus really want to slay his enemies? Owing to misinterpretation of the Bible even Stalin, Sadaam Hussein, Hitler and Idi Amin the butcher could have claimed that their power came from God. Let us come nearer home and think of the Stevens and the Sam Banguras, etc and see where we stand on this issue. There is a certain imbecility in the love of boundless power.

“When one rules justly over men, ruling in the fear  of God he dawns on them like the morning light, like the sun shining forth upon a cloudless morning, like the rain that makes grass to sprout upon the grass…” 2 Samuel 23:3-4.

Ahmed Tejan Kabbah possessed boundless power without abusing it. That is virtue. He had over 70 percent in the 2002 elections compared to 58% percent which the cursed flatterers are taunting as a landslide or earthquake. I wager if it had been Ernest Koroma we would have been headed for a one-party state by now. Even with a purloined election see what percentage he got. And yet he is inching his way towards a Third Term and/or extension of their parliamentary term with the aid of some stolen parliamentary seats from those two constituencies in Kailahun District.

What is the extraordinary curriculum vitae of this man that he thinks himself indispensable to existence of the state that is called Sierra Leone? Public deceit of 24 hours of electricity, or geo-ethnic divisiveness of the country and wastage of public funds? Even if the oracle in Mali and other places stated that a Third Term is possible by manipulation it will be as silent on its immeasurable consequences as that projected greatest beneficiary is. This time round the people are not going to be dormant over the issue as they were over recent tampering with the constitution. Foul deeds will rise. Should we assume that all the ex-combatants are no longer in existence all because they seemed to acquiesce in the results of the last two general and presidential elections which were challenged by a good section of our society? We must as a nation not allow to continue those things that led to the civil war and are raising their ugly heads yet again.

The problem with these miscreants and their Third Term idiocy is that after all their evil deeds they end up by praying for forgiveness to the Almighty God. Like the thief on the cross they labour under the error that after all their rape of their respective states Jesus Christ will say “Today thou shall be with me in paradise.” Wrong-headed.

Friends and relatives of Mr Fix-It should advise him in his own interest not to stoke up circumstances similar to those in some other countries where sit-tight leaders have caused mayhem to be unleashed because of their greed. Ernest Koroma should discover himself and come out of his reverie. In Galatians 6:3 of the Bible it is written: “For if anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself.” Koroma’s ideological godfather, Siaka Stevens, used to say “If the best and worst of us were to perish the great mundane movement will go on.” But here are the followers of Bai, apparently not acting in isolation, giving us the impression that Sierra Leone will go down with him. A huge joke, isn’t it?

Is his name in full Robin Fallay or Robin Nafallay? I want to think that it is Robin Nafallay which has been shortened to Fallay. For those who are not aware Nafallay is a Mende masked devil for entertainment by youths on festive occasions. So readers should not be surprised to find some degree of entertainment in Fallay’s gimmicks. By the "Robin" is also a red-breasted bird so if he flies away to the APC or even flies back to the SLPP perhaps one need not be surprised. Birds are by nature migratory. So far for this apparent opportunist.

A last word to the despicable extortionists and their leaders behind this Third Term agenda  is that we shall not tire in forcing them to disgorge the Third Term venom that they have swallowed. There is hope against hope between both sides of the issue. The APC should beware of breeding a Salone Haram unwittingly. A word to the wise is sufficient.

C.R.C excess publicity

There is no gainsaying the fact that the Constitutional Review Committee is a progressive idea owing to the fact that we live in a fast-changing world though change, per se, does not necessarily lead to improvement. Publicity for the CRC’s activities is obliviously supportive of the Open Government Partnership.

It is well known that the way a thing is done is more important than what is being done. In this regard I have noted with disdain the translation of the activities of the CRC in the national languages.

They go to the extent of giving email and website addresses to the stark illiterates. The CRC should have known by now that there are several thousands of even literate citizens who haven’t the foggiest idea about IT let alone wasting announcers breath on the issue just justify wasted expenditure. CRC should make better use of taxpayers’ money - and donor money too.
