Guarantee Trust Bank Limited has unveiled the first ever Leones master card for its customers at the Radisson Blu Hotel on Aberdeen, west of Freetown.
Managing Director, Gbenga Alade, said at the beginning of this year he promised customers that they would provide an international master card that would reduce the burden of traveling with cash amidst the risk of losing it to thieves.
Mr. Alade also said that the idea was born out of the desire to give the best to their customers and that it was made possible by the support of the centre bank of Sierra Leone.
He added that the bank was also determined to introduce more services and create a conducive platform for Chinese customers and their Sierra Leonean counterpart.
Differentiating the Leone master from the ATM, the MD said that: “Leone master card can operate in over 20 million ATM outlets across the world. It does not necessarily have to be with GTbank alone but with any other bank as long as you have money in your account”.
He added that with the master card a customer didn’t need foreign currencies in their account to be able to transact business in currencies of their choice, but warned against exposing their details anybody, which could be risky.
While unveiling the product the Executive chairman of African Minerals, Gibril Moseray Fadika, said the opportunity created by GTbank would enhance the business atmosphere in the country. “This can be alluded to the fact that the country has an open space for business competition”, he said and congratulated the bank for being the first to introduce Leone master card in the country.
