By coincidence or divine design, the German Ambassador His ExcellencyMr Karl Prinz on Saturday August 8, witnessed the launching of litter bins around the central business district in Bo city. The Mayor of Bo City Council His Worship Harold Logie Tucker did the official launching of the litter bins whilst the German Ambassador was at hand to give more clout and impetus to the program whilst visiting other project sites.
The litter bins had been installed by the Welthungerhilfe implemented project on waste management for Bo City Council with funds provided by the British Department for International Cooperation and is intended to minimize littering within the central business district of the city. The CBD is normally a heavily populated area during the day as traders converge there to sell their products and is frequented by the Bo populace who troop around to buy necessary items. It also houses most of the banks and other important places like mobile phone offices and big business houses. This area, which covers Fenton Road, part of Dambala Road, sections of Kissy Town Road and Bojon Street is the cynosure for anybody living in Bo or visiting there.
During the launching ceremony, Mayor Tucker said the program was of vital importance to the people of Bo. He dilated on the challenges facing them as a council in managing municipal waste and expounded on how the litter bins would be aid in minimizing the indiscriminate disposal of waste within the central business district. He entreated the people of Bo to adopt the habit of disposing their small wastes into the bins for easier collection and safe disposal.
The German Ambassador His Excellency Mr. Karl Prinz shed light on the relevance of the project to the people of Bo. He talked about his relationship with Sierra Leone, being in the country before now and his love for the warm people of the country. Mr. Karl Prinz expressed delight at being a witness to the launching of the litter bins and committed the willingness of the German government to help the people of Sierra Leone and Bo in particular. He said he appreciated the work being done by the Bo people in managing their waste.
The ceremony was climaxed by the Mayor of Bo City doing the symbolic depositing of waste into one of the litter bins located at Bojon Street by Black and White.
