Police in Kamakwie, the headquarter town of Karene district are investigating the activities of alleged gang of armed robbers after arresting them in the early hours of Sunday 18th July 2021 in the home of one Lamin with machetes and other dangerous instruments.
According to the Deputy Police Media and Public Relations Officer, ASP Samuel Saio Conteh, three men and a woman were arrested and are “helping the police with investigations following reports of attempted robbery at the home of one Lamin at Looking Town in Kamakwie.
ASP Conteh said the suspects had been living in the house of a female OSD officer who is currently deployed in another location in the district. He said the officer in question has denied knowledge of their stay in her house, noting that she left the place in care of her children who reside there.
Conteh said from their investigations so far, they have established that “the suspects are from Freetown, Bo, Kenema and other parts of Sierra Leone who had gone to the community to do Timber logging. But with the suspension of that activity by the government they turned to criminal activities”.
He said when they raided the house they did not find “any weapons and ammunition”.
Politico understands that the female OSD officer has not been arrested but she is cooperating with the police and none of her children are among the four in police custody.
ASP Conteh said “if we find anything incriminating, we may call in the OSD officer for further probing and possible arrest”.
