Former Sierra Leone President Ernest Bai Koroma is to deliver the keynote address at this year’s lecturer series remembering Nigeria’s first President, Nnamdi Azikwe, the former President’s office announced on Tuesday.
According to a statement released via social media, the office said Koroma departed Freetown on Tuesday for Awka in Anambra State in southeastern Nigeria.
Koroma, according to the statement, is the guest of the Nnamdi Azikwe University, which is hosting the event.
The late Dr. Nnamdi Azikwe was a Nigerian statesman who first served as Governor General of Nigeria under British rule from 1960 to 1963 and then became the first President of the country from 1963 to 1966. Fondly known as Zik, the late Nigerian statesman was considered as a driving force behind the nation's independence.
This will be the 8th edition of what is officially called ‘Zik’s Annual Lecture Series. It will be held on the theme: ‘Migration and Development in Africa: Patterns, Issues and Challenges.’
The event is slated for November 16.
President Koroma has been scheduled to pay a courtesy call on Agbogidi, the Obi Of Onitsha, as well as Chief Dr. Senator Ben Obi, a leading Igbo political figure and the benefactor of the Zik Lecture Series, ahead of the event.
Koroma is also scheduled to be taken on a conducted tour of the host university, after which he would be hosted to a dinner by Anambra State Govt.
On November 17th, the former Sierra Leonean leader will attend a special church service at St. Faith Cathedral, Anglican Communion, Awka, with full Guard of Honour.
Koroma is slated to return home on November 19.
