The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the ambassador of Sierra Leone to Egypt, has secured the shipment of medical supplies worth $ 4 Million from the government of Egypt as part of the Arab nation’s support for the global fight against the COVID 19 pandemic.
The consignment, authorities say, contains essential medical equipment including 1,841 sterile gloves, 2,590 isolation overalls, 1,042 face shields,
729 medical plastics glasses, 218 long neck medical plastic boots (cosalic) and 704 medical injection exhaust (Capacity six-litres).
Director of the Department of African Organizations in the Egypt government, Soha Gendi, said Egypt extended this support within the framework of the solidarity with brotherly African countries.
The consignments left the Cairo International Airport in a special flight and landed at the Lungi International Airport on Wednesday 9th September 2020.
Bidding farewell to the medical supplies, Sierra Leone’s ambassador to Egypt, Motor Fofana, lauded the Egyptians for their largesse to his country and emphasized that a strong bilateral ties has existed between the two countries. Ambassador Fofana added that the support has strengthened the brotherly relation between both countries. He thanked the Egyptian people for what he described as a ‘‘timely’’ support at a time the country's COVID 19 positive cases are lessening, assuring that the supplies will be utilized for their intended purpose.
Egyptian Diplomat, Bassel Taman, in charge of the affairs of Egyptian Embassy in Sierra Leone, traced the ties binding the two countries back to 1961, when Cairo first opened its Embassy in Freetown few months before Sierra Leone’s independence from Britain on April 27, 1961.
