Defence to make ‘no case submission’ in Palo’s spouse's matter

By Francis H. Murray

The State prosecutor in the preliminary investigation of Isata Saccoh, spouse of Alfred Palo Conteh, who was arraigned in court for allegedly possessing fire arms and ammunition at her residence, has closed his case before Magistrate Hannah Bonnie in Freetown.

Lawyer Yusif Isaac Sesay, in closing his case on Wednesday 14th October 2020, said the decision was reached due to the evidence led against the accused.

“Due to the evidence lead so far against the accused person, this is the case for the prosecution," he noted.

The prosecution led in evidence a couple of witnesses including a ballistic expert from the Criminal Investigations Department headquarters.

Following the close of the prosecution’s case, defence lawyer for the accused, Wara Serry Kamal, also disclosed that she intended to make a written ‘‘no case submission’’ on the next adjourned date.

The matter was adjourned to the 30th October, 2020 for the no case submission.

The accused, Isata Saccoh, is on a three-count charge of conspiracy, unlawful possession of arms and ammunition and perverting the course of justice.

The prosecution alleges that the accused person on 29th April, 2020, at Hill Station in the Western Area, conspired with other persons unknown to commit a felony by facilitating the escape of her husband, Alfred Palo Conteh, from the custody of the Sierra Leone Correctional Services at Pademba Road and also had in her possession fire arms and ammunition without lawful authority.
