Lawyers acting on behalf of former Leone Stars’ skipper, Mohamed Kallon, have written a letter to the Sierra Leone Football Association, SLFA, secretariat registering their opposition to the constitution of the committee investigating the case involving their client.
The committee was to look into last week’s case of assault involving Kallon, who alleged that he was assaulted by FA president, Isha Johansen, who also claimed that she too was assaulted following an FA cup match at the football academy in Freetown. Both sides had filed complaints with the police.
But in a letter dated 12 March, 2014 and addressed to the FA, lawyer Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai of Luawa Chambers said that “the Executive Committee has no legal basis to constitute a disciplinary committee of the SLFA and doing so will violate the SLFA constitution”.
According to him the congress of football stakeholders was the only body that could set up a disciplinary committee.
Lawyer Abdulai said his client was concerned about the impartiality of members of the disciplinary committee. The letter noted that all three personalities were “fine gentlemen”, but that Rtd. Major Conteh was a member of the RSLAF football club’s executive, while Mr. Kweku Lisk had acted as legal representative of Madam Johansen and Mr. Karrow Kamara“clearly supported” the SLFA president during the last election.
Meanwhile, the national football ruling body had issued a statement on Tuesday announcing that the Disciplinary Committee of the SLFA would investigate the incident and make recommendations to the Executive Committee.
Our sports editor said with the credibility of the Disciplinary Committee now in question, it was almost certain that both complaints would end up before the courts. On Monday Kallon was invited by the police and questioned for several hours before he was released on bail.
