Justice Momoh-Jah Stevens, presiding over the manslaughter trial of former Managing Director of Skye Bank, Sierra Leone, Ikubolaje Nicol’s has ordered the Director General of the Correctional Services to return the accused to Connaught hospital to continue his medical treatment.

Justice Momoh-Jah Stevens gave the temporal order in the High Court in Freetown on Tuesday May 14, 2024 saying that the Correctional Service should provide update on the accused’s medical status to the court every two weeks.

Justice Stevens also told the Correctional Service to provide strict security supervision for the accused while at the Connaught hospital.

The order came after the lead defence lawyer Rowland Wright read a portion of the Correctional Centre’s medical report on the accused, which states: “the patient has chronic heart disease that cannot be managed at our facility, but under a cardiologist.”

Meanwhile, the lead state prosecutor for this session, Aruna Jalloh led more witness, in evidence. Mohamed Coleson Kamara, the sixth prosecution witness, who is the registrar of the court, tendered the deposition of the medical doctor at the Shuman Hospital at the time of the incident Dr. Mohamed A. Bangura. Dr. Bangura, who the court was told is nowhere to seen give this testimony during preliminary investigation at the magistrate’s court.

After series of objections from the defence about the qualification of the said witness to tender the deposition and the legality of the deposition, prosecutor Jalloh said they were doing so because the medical doctor in question cannot be located for him to testify.

The accused is before the court on three counts of conspiracy to commit manslaughter, manslaughter and perverting the cause of justice.

The case resumes next Tuesday 21st May 2024.
