The Court of Appeal has continued hearing appeals filed by Persons of Interest against the government White Paper based on the recommendations of Commissions of Inquiry (COI).
Former Lands Minister Alhaji Musa Tarawally and four civil servants Mani Koroma, Dennis K. Vandi, Barba Brima Fortune, Umaru A Conteh, appeared before a three-member panel of judges: Ansumana Ivan Sesay, Momoh Jah Stevens and Adrian J. Fisher on Wednesday 20th February 2021.
The judges unanimously gave certain directions to both lawyers representing the Appellants and the Attorney General and Minster of Justice.
Lawyers representing Tarawally were directed to file written synopsis on or before the 3rd day of February 2021 and to also serve the document on the respondent by the same deadline.
Lawyers for the state were directed to file their written synopsis on or before the 17th of February 2021 and cause same to be served and filed on the Appellant and the court on the same date.
The court also gave similar directives to both sides representing the civil servants and the state on a different deadline.
Following the release of the government white paper, the government gave persons of interest a 90-day grace period within which appeals could be filled against its findings and recommendations. That period ended on the eve of Christmas 2020. 80 so-called Persons of Interest filed appeals.
