Girl rights group leader, Makalay Sondai has expressed concern at the delay in the Police investigations over the death of a schoolgirl in Moyamba district, southern Sierra Leone.
She told Politico that since the death of Grace Lamboi aged 20 on the 7th of June this year, her organization Moonteen, and the family of the deceased, have been monitoring the police investigation of the matter that’s yet to be charged to court.
She said that they are also concerned that police granted bail to the only suspect that was arrested in the case and that the family of the deceased is not happy particularly about the delay in the investigation of their daughter’s death noting that “justice delayed is justice denied.”
Sondai said that she became worried when the deceased, the victim’s remains were hurriedly buried without postmortem examination on the orders of the police, saying that she knew it was going to be difficult to get justice.
She expressed a strong resolve to continue monitoring the case until something happens that will serve as a deterrent to other people in the community and the country at large against them taking undue advantage of girls.
Speaking to Politico, the Regional Police Media and Public Relations Officer South, Sub Inspector Andrew Aiah Mondeh confirmed that the suspect, Issac Dimoh had been put on bail on the orders of the State Counsel in Bo Augustine Sheku.
He said that the body of the deceased will be exhumed for an examination. Mondeh added that the police has called on the pathologist, Dr. Owiz Koromo “to come and do the examination but he is yet to come and so we are waiting to further our investigation”.
It could be recalled that in the early hours of 7th June 2022, Lamboi a JSS 3 pupil who was in a study camp was later found dead and naked at the entrance of Njala Experimental Primary school at Njala Mokonde in Moyamba.
