Clerk of Parliament praised for gender awareness

The Leader of the Female Caucus in the House of Parliament, Veronica Kadie Sesay, representing Constituency 094 in Moyamba District, has applauded the Clerk of Parliament, Paran Tarawallie, for being gender conscious as head of the administration of Parliament, prior to the enactment of the Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment Bill into law.

Ms. Sesay noted that before the passage of the Bill into law, Tarawallie had already started implementing the law by creating a Gender Desk in the administration of parliament with a Director. She said the Clerk of Parliament also recruited large number of female workers that include a Director General who she said happened to be the first female Director- General. 

According to her, the Gender Department is well recognized in Parliament and actively operating within the House.

She also applauded him for his immense support to the passing of the gender empowerment bill into law.

The Female Caucus Leader also recognised the efforts by the Speaker of Parliament and other leaders in the house of parliament and donor partners for their immense support.

The Bill seeks to address the gender imbalances by making provision for increased elective positions for women.

It also provides for the promotion of gender equality in employment and training, and implementation of gender mainstreaming and budgeting.

The bill also seeks for financial institutions to prescribe procedures for the improvement of women's access to finance as well as other related matters.
