Chinese FM due in Freetown Saturday

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit Sierra Leone over the week end as part of a tour of the three nations hardest hit by the Ebola epidemic, China`s Foreign Ministry has announced.

Mr Wang is due to depart for Freetown on Saturday and it is unclear when exactly he will arrive in Freetown.

The three day tour will also take him to Liberia and Guinea, the statement said.

According to other sources, Mr Wang is currently in Southeast Asia attending a regional security summit.

This will be his first visit to Sierra Leone and the most high profile by a Chinese government official to the Ebola ravaged countries since the outbreak.

China is currently Africa's biggest trading partner, and it has sent hundreds of medical workers to the continent and contributed aid of over $120 million to the anti-Ebola fight.

In Sierra Leone, the China CDC has been instrumental in not just treating Ebola patients but also training of local health staff. China has also installed two laboratories in the course of the outbreak to boost the Ebola testing ability of the country.
